Perhaps it is not romantic for couples to start discussing money issues early in their relationship, so many put this off. This can lead to disastrous results. After all, to find out only when it is time to decide on buying a flat that you and your partner are not financially compatible can be a bitter pill to swallow.

The last time I checked, I have been married for 37 years. I still find it amusing that one of the first questions my 20-year-old self posed to my boyfriend (now husband) when he asked me out was: “What’s your monthly pay?”
