As an only child with older parents, I had always known the day would come when I would have to play the role of caregiver. 

In my mind, it would come gradually, with time to plan, get things in order and hire the right help. I also envisaged spending quality time together, going on holidays and doing family things – making up for the six years I spent working in China. Three of those were marked by Covid-19 when travel was curtailed.
