As Japan confronts continuing Chinese rage and retaliation over Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent remarks on Taiwan, the degree of support the Japanese are getting from the United States has come under intense scrutiny.

The mixed signalling from Washington since her reply in Parliament on Nov 7 has reportedly caused a frustrated Tokyo to push for greater clarity and stronger affirmation of their alliance.
