Firefighters battling a spreading peat fire in a residential district in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia on Jan 28, 2026. Pengerang lies about 30km east of Singapore across the strait, and the authorities have called for helicopter water drops to contain the blaze, which has forced over 100 residents to evacuate.
