SINGAPORE - Travel planning and booking website TripAdvisor has revealed Singapore's top cheap eats.

Based on reviews gathered over a year, Old Airport Road Food Centre took the top spot. Indian eateries Zam Zam at North Bridge Road and Komala Villas at Serangoon Road completed the top three, said TripAdvisor in a press release on Wednesday (Oct 19).

Old Airport Road Food Centre is known for its array of local delights such as Hokkien mee, char kway teow, lor mee and satay. One of Singapore's largest hawker centres, it was built nearly 40 years ago.

Chinatown Complex, Makansutra Glutton's Bay, Wee Nam Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice, Food Republic (Wisma Atria), Ya Kun Kaya Toast (China Street), Malaysian Food Street and Satay By The Bay filled the remaining top 10 places for budget dining in that order.

"Eating is such a big part of a travel journey so we're incredibly excited to recognise the top places to eat at in Singapore that have been recognised by millions of global foodie travellers from the TripAdvisor Community," said Ms Janice Lee Fang, communications director for TripAdvisor, Asia-Pacific.

The press release also noted that nearly half (48 per cent) of restaurant reviews this year were submitted on mobile devices, a 12 per cent increase compared to last year.

The world's best fine dining restaurants were also highlighted.

While Mediterranean restaurant Martin Bersategui in Spain retained its top spot in the fine dining chart, Singapore's Restaurant Andre was ranked fourth on the top 25 fine dining restaurants in the world. The French restaurant, located at Bukit Basoh Road, has two Michelin stars. It was opened by Taiwanese-born chef Andre Chiang in 2010.
