It is a huge blow, and one that could well sound the death knell for the world's oldest and largest watch fair. Like a bolt from the blue, five of Baselworld's biggest exhibitors - Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chopard, Chanel and Tudor - issued a statement on Tuesday announcing their exit from the event.
The quintet will work with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) - a Swiss organisation that promotes and develops fine watchmaking - to stage their own show in April next year at the Palexpo convention centre in Geneva.
