SINGAPORE - Two Charles & Keith handbags are hot sellers on the Singapore fashion brand website after British actress Maisie Williams carried them to Sunday's Emmy Awards.

The 19-year-old Game Of Thrones actress flew the flag for Singapore by toting the brand's Evening Wristlet bag in black on the Emmys red carpet, and a white Prism Minaudiere clutch to the HBO Emmy after-party.

Both were sold out online, a check on the Charles & Keith website on Wednesday (Sept 21) showed.

A bronze version of the Wristlet which Williams carried to a pre-Emmys tea party for British Academy of Film And Television Arts nominees on Saturday was also sold out.

Only the burgundy version of the Wristlet and another version of the Prism Minaudiere clutch, in multi colours, were available on Wednesday.

The Wristlet is listed at S$39.90 for shipping to Singapore and US$39 (S$53) for United States sales, and the Prism Minaudiere at S$89 and US$89.

Was there a "Maisie Effect" at work, which led to the bags being sold out after the actress flaunted them at the Emmys?

She did, however, draw media attention by showing off the Singapore brand's bags at the prestigious US television awards show in Los Angeles.

The acting fashion news editor Emma Spedding of London's The Telegraph on Monday wrote that while most nominees would opt for a crystal-encrusted box clutch on the red carpet, Williams chose a vintage-inspired, affordable pouch from the Singapore-based label.

Williams, who is known for her chic dressing and cute collection of clutches and minaudieres, matched the black Evening Wristlet with a custom-made embroidered Markus Lupfer gown, the report said.

She was attending the TV awards show in Los Angeles as a supporting actress nominee for Game Of Thrones. She did not win but the HBO TV series swept the awards with 12 prizes.

On Charles & Keith's website, the Evening Wristlet is described as a "small triangle-shaped chain wristlet with zip closure and tassel detail" on the site. The Prism Minaudiere is a "small box clutch with buckle closure and raised prism accents".

Charles & Keith, founded by Singaporean brothers Charles and Keith Wong in 1996, started by making shoes and later expanded to include jewellery, handbags and accessories.

In 2011, L Capital Asia, the private equity arm of luxury goods group Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, bought a 20 per cent stake in the brand.

Williams' stylist Harriet Byczok told The Telegraph: "At the Emmys, the Bafta tea party and the Emmys after parties, all of her bags were from Charles & Keith.

"It does cool shapes and triangle boxes, which are a quirky touch and also make her look a bit more grown up. She also wore a Charles & Keith bag to the Baftas, and I have been in love with them ever since.

"Charles & Keith is the new high street label to know," said the report. "Still an under-the-radar label in the UK, this is an insiders' spot for expensive-looking, sleek handbags at an affordable price," it added.

The Telegraph said the Wristlet costs £39 (S$69). All Charles & Keith's bags are under the £100 mark, it said.
