SINGAPORE - After Hong Kong auteur Stanley Kwan and actress Sammi Cheng worked together the last time - she was the star of his film Everlasting Regret (2005) - she was diagnosed with depression.

It was difficult for her to get out of her head the role of tragic 1940s Shanghai beauty Qiyao, according to news reports, and the actress allegedly locked herself up in her room for days at a time.
