LOS ANGELES (AFP) - It will not put a smile on her notoriously pouty face but Grumpy Cat, the feline who became an Internet meme and a hugely lucrative brand, has just won US$710,000 (S$930,000) in court.

The famously moody-looking cat was at the centre of a copyright infringement case in a California court which culminated with the jury ruling in favour of her owner Tabatha Bundesen.

The dispute was sparked by a deal signed with Granade Beverage over the use of Grumpy Cat's image in a line of iced coffee drinks.

Her company Grumpy Cat Ltd argued that Granade had used the cat's face on a host of unauthorised products.

Grumpy Cat has also made cameos in films and TV shows, appeared at Comicon and red carpet premiers and featured in a host of lucrative merchandise deals.
