SINGAPORE - Chinese leading man Huang Xiaoming braved fiery heat and icy cold and even dislocated his shoulder - all for his new film, The Bravest, a disaster movie chronicling firefighters' efforts to save a city from exploding in flames.

The movie, which opens on Thursday (Aug 29), is based on a real-life incident - a 2010 oil pipe explosion in China's north-eastern port city Dalian. More than 2,000 firefighters worked overnight to put out the fire and one died in the course of duty.
