SINGAPORE - Come Sept 6 next year (2019), theatregoers will have a new venue to look forward to in the heart of the Civic District. Theatre company Wild Rice's new headquarters at the Funan mall will boast an intimate 360-seat theatre, a 60-seat studio, a rehearsal space as well as the company's offices.
The shell - floor, walls and ceiling - of the space has been completed and handed over to Wild Rice. The theatre company has hired renowned theatre consultant Charcoalblue, which has consulted on projects such as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and the Dorfman Theatre at London's National Theatre, to design the space. Singapore architecture studio Zarch Collaboratives will build the 18,000 sq ft complex, which will take up prime frontage along North Bridge Road.
