SINGAPORE - Visitors are welcome to step on a work of art at the National Gallery Singapore's new exhibition, Suddenly Turning Visible: Art And Architecture In Southeast Asia (1969 - 1989). In fact, Step On The Sand And Make Footprints by Filipino artist Raymundo Albano is only complete if visitors actually leave their imprints in a sandbox.
Co-curator Seng Yu Jin, 40, says that Albano was being "cheeky" when he sent in instructions to the Tokyo Print Biennale to make a sandbox and allow four people to step into it. But the Biennale accepted his proposal and it was presented at the 1964 edition.
