Few life events shift priorities as quickly as preparing for a child. For couples planning to start or grow a family, your family’s healthcare needs – and the costs that come with them – can change in unexpected ways from pregnancy through to your child’s first years.

So even before you shortlist baby names or push presents, it is worth taking a closer look at whether your health coverage supports both your family’s growing care needs and financial priorities at this new milestone in life.

Recently, Great Eastern introduced its new P Prime plans, offering more value for private healthcare access while giving parents flexibility as their family’s needs evolve.

Adding to the insurer’s existing suite of GREAT SupremeHealth plans and complemented by the GREAT TotalCare supplementary plan, this health coverage solution offers families a more personalised healthcare journey.

Under the P Prime plans, expectant mothers have access to specialist care for pregnancy and childbirth complications¹ at selected women’s clinics, including Mount Alvernia Hospital, Thomson Medical Centre and Raffles Hospital. For parents who value continuity of care, this allows them to see the same gynaecologist throughout pregnancy and delivery, and to transition more easily to paediatric specialist care, especially when such complications arise.

With curated panel specialists who provide dedicated attention and thoughtful follow-up, parents can feel assured that their needs are understood and supported.

Depending on your preference, budget or medical situation, the P Prime plans also support treatment at restructured hospitals. This gives families the flexibility to access quality care with potentially lower out-of-pocket expenses, alongside private hospital options.

Support during baby’s crucial first years

Specialist access matters not just during pregnancy, but also in the early years of a child’s life. From a baby’s first weeks through to preschool age, parents often rely on paediatric specialists for developmental concerns, infections or conditions that may only surface after birth.

Having access to the right specialists can provide reassurance during these formative years.

If you or your spouse are already covered under GREAT SupremeHealth and have a baby on the way, you are covered for baby’s congenital abnormalities of up to $5,000 per child right from birth2

Should your child have his or her own GREAT SupremeHealth plan from as early as 15 days old, this coverage for congenital abnormalities – provided the condition is diagnosed after the policy is in force – extends for life.

Beyond hospital bills and coverage limits, support during unexpected medical situations also matters. From late-night emergencies to specialist referrals and post-discharge questions, parents may turn to Great Medical Care Concierge, a new round-the-clock service for Great Eastern’s Integrated Shield Plan policyholders (see box below), for help.

“Planning for a family often means thinking ahead about both care needs and costs,” says Mr David Yip, head of Accident and Health Business, Great Eastern. “The P Prime plans, which are the most affordable option within our suite of private healthcare plans, are designed to support this early planning and help parents right-size their coverage.”
