LOS ANGELES – James Handy, a character actor in such films as Logan (2017), Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and Arachnophobia (1990), was found stabbed to death at a home in Los Angeles on June 3, the police said. He was 81.

A 44-year-old man who is the son of Handy’s girlfriend was arrested on a murder charge, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The police said they had been alerted to the crime when a man called 911 saying: “I am the son of man. I just killed the man of sin.”

Upon arriving at the home, in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles, police officers found Handy unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

The suspect, Michael Gledhill, who lived at the home with his mother, flagged down police officers and told them he was the person they were looking for, police said.

Gledhill is being held on US$2 million (S$2.6 million) bail.

Handy’s many roles included a doctor in Logan, a bartender in Top Gun and a coroner in Arachnophobia. He also appeared in Jumanji (1995), The Rocketeer (1991) and many TV shows, including as the director of the CIA in Alias (2001). NYTIMES
