AMSTERDAM – The Netherlands and Belgium, which were briefly united in the 19th century, share history and the Dutch language. They also share a dense network of waterways to provide seamless passage for ships to sail and berth at small towns and villages often not found on the usual Europe tourist itinerary.

Starting in Amsterdam and ending in Brussels, the eight-day cruise I went on in April was full of culture and history.
