SINGAPORE – Fort Canning Hotel Singapore, the neoclassical heritage building atop Fort Canning Hill, has been reimagined as Mett Singapore.

The new hotel opens on Oct 28 and is owned by Dubai-based Sunset Hospitality Group (SHG), whose portfolio includes Chinese restaurant Mott 32 and dining and nightlife venue Sushisamba Singapore.

The Mett brand of hotels currently operates in four cities: Bodrum in Turkey; Marbella and Barcelona in Spain; and Milan in Italy. Mett Singapore will be its first Asian outpost.

Mr Antonio Gonzalez, chairman and group chief executive of SHG, says: “Each destination was chosen for its cultural vibrancy and emotional resonance with our brand. They are places where we see an opportunity to create something meaningful.

“Fort Canning’s rich history and natural beauty provide the perfect backdrop for Mett’s warm, vibrant and soulful spirit, where locals and travellers alike can connect and celebrate.”

The group took over the Fort Canning property on Dec 1, 2024, and has since refurbished the interiors while preserving the building’s historic facade.

The 84-room hotel has eight room categories, from 35 sq m entry-level deluxe patio rooms to 160 sq m two-bedroom suites. Nightly rates start at $625.

Designed by Canadian designer Jeffrey Wilkes, the interiors feature sleek modern furnishings, nature-inspired wallpaper and subtle nods to Mett’s signature dark blue, seen in touches like coffee machines and hangers.

The hotel’s general manager Marcel Li, who has more than 20 years of hospitality experience and will lead a team of 180 staff, says today’s travellers “want everything at their fingertips” – from nature and wellness to good food and social connection.

He adds: “We have the chance to reimagine the brand of this heritage building ahead of its 100th year in 2026. It is a living example of how we can celebrate the past while embracing a modern lifestyle.”

The hotel will have dog-friendly rooms, two padel courts, a pickleball court, spa facility The Longevity Suite and a gym measuring around 300 sq m, with studios for fitness classes like reformer pilates and aerial yoga.

Some of these amenities will be housed at SHG’s inaugural private members’ club Madison House, which will be situated in a four-storey building on the hotel grounds. Hotel guests will have access to the club during their stay at no extra cost.

Membership is by application only and members will have access to the hotel’s spa, fitness and racquet facilities, and social programming like supper clubs and industry talks, among other perks. SHG declined to reveal membership fees.

Italian chef Daniele Sperindio, a Michelin-starred restaurateur and the hotel’s director of culinary and food and beverage, will oversee four dining venues: Italian fine-dining restaurant Art di Daniele Sperindio, Italian bistro L’Amo Bistro del Mare, Korean grill Hanu and all-day bar lounge Canning Bar & Lounge.

Mr Gonzalez says the hotel’s opening in Singapore is a strategic step for expansion in the region.

He adds: “Mett Singapore marks a pivotal milestone for SHG as our debut in Asia Pacific. Over the next few years, we will be increasing our presence in Singapore, while also accelerating our growth in key Asian markets such as Vietnam and Thailand.”

The group has another Singapore project in the pipeline. Located in Cuscaden Road, the 165-room hotel

Casa Mett

– owned by Singapore-based property development company Royal Group – is slated to open in early 2027.
