SINGAPORE - By his own admission, Mr Max Tan is not a romantic. He is more likely to prank his girlfriend, Ms Lee Lishan, 31, than say "I love you".

But on March 21, he went to great heights to ask for her hand in marriage, rappelling down the facade of the Ramada by Wyndham Singapore at Zhongshan Park hotel to deliver his message while suspended outside her 17th-storey room.
