I tend to pick bright lights and big cities for my holiday destinations. So the island of Borneo did not register on my radar as a potential go-to. But I headed for Kota Kinabalu in the east Malaysian state of Sabah recently for a long weekend getaway.
Relatively cheap airfares on Scoot and a memory of delicious Dayak cuisine drove the impulse booking.
