SINGAPORE - Mr Jo Ng and his family were preparing to take their first holiday in two years when they realised they had a problem: one of their suitcases, a Samsonite which had served them well for seven years, was not usable.

"Two of the four wheels had degraded, so it couldn't be moved," said the self-employed 36-year-old, who is married with a 10-month-old son.
