NEPAL – It is April 26, and my mother and younger brother are in an emergency helicopter that will take them 2,304m down the Himalayas, travelling eight times the height of the tallest building in Singapore.

My family of five had decided to hike to the foot of Mount Everest, eternally elusive, and the highest point on earth. It is spring in Nepal and our destination is Everest Base Camp.
