Sungei Kadut Carnival weekend brings home-decor shopping buzz
Four leading retailers including Gain City have come together to spearhead the Sungei Kadut Home and Living Carnival this weekend on Nov 8 and Nov 9. The headline brands are Gain City, Nova Furnishing, Scanteak and Star Living, and they draw attention to the transformation of the island’s northern region.
This comes after the government announced plans in August to build a new public housing estate with about 14,000 homes in about a decade, a new MRT station at Sungei Kadut connecting the North-South and Downtown MRT lines, and new green spaces with the opening of the Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat Nature Park in 2028.
The event marks a radical shift from competition to collaboration, as home-grown and overseas brands across the home-and-living sector unite to add greater value to the shopping, design and recreational experience for residents and homeowners living there now.
Other well-known home and living brands include stylish contemporary furniture brands such as Aartical, Rozel and Mondi.
Mr Kenny Teo, Gain City’s managing director, says the carnival is not just about great deals but also community, sustainability and the store’s commitment to residents in Sungei Kadut.
“From giving shoppers the widest choice of air-conditioners and furniture to tech-driven products that are easily accessible using Climate Vouchers, Gain City focuses on helping families make smart, sustainable choices that are good for homes as well as the environment,” he says.
Gain City is offering up to 90 per cent off bedding and furniture deals, Buy-One-Get-One-Free deals on selected mattress brands and models, plus bedding accessories worth $168.
There will also be free parking, free shuttle bus services from Yew Tee and Choa Chu Kang MRT, and goodie bags worth $200 with a minimum spend of $1,000. aincity.com/biggesthlc

Raffles Hotel celebrates No 5 ranking in World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025

Raffles Singapore - which says its visitors arrive as guests, leave as friends and return as family - has gone up a notch to No 5 in the global hotel rankings.
The colonial-era hotel, which started as a luxe 10-room caravanserai in 1887 for royalty, well-heeled Europeans and Asians, has become a 115-suite icon today.
It moved up from sixth position in 2024 at the annual World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 awards - also known as the “Oscars of the hotel industry” - in a ceremony on Oct 31 in London.
The event was conceived as a live countdown from No 50 to No 1. The top place went to Rosewood Hong Kong, followed by the Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River in the second spot, Capella Bangkok in third and Passalacqua - Lake Como in Italy in fourth.
The ranking is collated from 800 anonymous experts comprising hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and seasoned luxury travellers.
As part of the celebrations, Raffles Singapore is giving a one-night complimentary stay when guests book two consecutive nights at either a Promenade or Grand Hotel Suite. Rates for the hotel’s top suites start from about $4,500 a night.
Mr Christian Westbeld, managing director of Raffles Singapore, said it was “an extraordinary honour” to be in the global Top 5.
“Every colleague plays a vital role in shaping the Raffles journey for our guests, and it is through their passion that we continue to be recognised on the international stage,” he said last week at the big reveal at Old Billingsgate, a prestigious events venue in London.
