SINGAPORE – Museumgoers and Civic District passers-by will soon see Uniqlo T-shirts at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM).
The mega-popular Japanese retailer is running its first museum pop-up at the ACM lobby from April 9 to May 28.
The display centres on a curation of graphic T-shirts from its UT range, including a new collection done in collaboration with ACM, with original designs inspired by gallery objects.
A candelabra, pitcher shaped like a dancing woman and hookah base shaped like an elephant from ACM’s maritime trade gallery are the touchstones of one design done by Singapore-based creative studio Knuckles & Notch.
An ewer recovered from the Tang Shipwreck is rendered in deep red on a shirt designed by artist Gabriel De Souza.
There are five designs in total, priced at $29.90 for adult sizing and $19.90 for kids. All will be shown at the museum, with purchase and customisation to be made at Uniqlo’s Orchard Central flagship or Ion Orchard, VivoCity and Jewel Changi Airport stores.
The pop-up kicks off its opening weekend with a series of free arts programmes at the museum titled A Weekend Of Curiosities, part of ACM’s Crossing Cultures festival – a regular event that explores its collection through performing arts, craftsmanship, food traditions, wellness and other aspects of intangible cultural heritage past and present.

From April 10 to 12, visitors can experience hands-on workshops with local artists including Knuckles & Notch, live music and outdoor film screenings.
Every purchase of an ACM x UTme! T-shirt will entitle visitors to complimentary access to ACM’s special exhibitions and all-access areas. The promotion is limited to the first 100 redemptions each month until July 30.
ACM and Peranakan Museum director Clement Onn says: “This partnership with Uniqlo Singapore reflects our shared commitment to making the National Collection more accessible and meaningful to broader audiences.
“By engaging contemporary creative practice and design, we can interpret these cross-cultural works from fresh perspectives – connecting past and present in ways that resonate with how people live, create, and express themselves today.”
