Benjamin Barker opens recreational club

Home-grown menswear brand Benjamin Barker, best known for its suits, has launched the Benjamin Barker Recreational Club, a two-storey cafe, retail and community space at its long-time base at Orchard Road mall Cineleisure.

Here, whitewashed walls meet warm wood accents and soft lighting, signalling modern Scandinavian cool, while vintage details such as the bespoke 1970s-inspired JBL 4344 speakers and vinyl-lined walls add analogue flair.

The cafe on the first floor serves fusion dishes like waffle chicken gochujang and cold capellini, as well as speciality coffees and teas. A three-course set meal with gyoza, a salad and one main is going for $9.90++ to mark the opening.

The shopping lies on Level 2, with a curation of pre-loved and heritage-inspired garments. For those in want of some collegiate Americana, the collection includes Oxford shirts, chambray westerns and varsity knits. Utilitarian workwear staples, such as baker pants, fatigues, field jackets and work shirts, are also on the racks.

Level 2 of Benjamin Barker Recreational Club offers a curated retail and lifestyle space, featuring pre-loved fashion and a Vinyl Culture corner.

An athleisure corner showcases running kits, lightweight outerwear and performance tights inspired by founder Nelson Yap’s passion for running.

But music is the key offering on the floor. Speakers, amplifiers and records at the vinyl culture and analogue cool corner create a listening room vibe.

The ambition is to make the Cineleisure spot a cultural hub, with an evolving calendar of fashion, music and fitness programming. Think live vinyl sessions, day parties and run club meet-ups.

Info: 01-01 Cineleisure, 8 Grange Road. Open from 11am to 9pm (Mondays to Thursdays), 11am to 10pm (Fridays), 10am to 10pm (Saturdays) and 10am to 9pm (Sundays)

Kylie Cosmetics launches throwback collection at first Singapore store

The King Kylie collection captures the evolution of Kylie Jenner’s signature style and pays homage to the brand’s game-changing beginnings.

In the mid-2010s, American reality TV star Kylie Jenner’s teal ombre hair, strong brows and intensely matt, overdrawn lips inspired a cohort of young imitators. That look is now associated with the era and her moniker then, King Kylie.

On the back of those statement lips, the then 18-year-old launched the wildly successful Lip Kit by Kylie in 2015, renamed Kylie Cosmetics the following year. To mark the brand’s 10th anniversary, it is releasing the King Kylie collection.

It will retail exclusively at the brand’s first standalone Singapore store, which opened on Nov 5 at Bugis Junction mall.

The anniversary collection features an eyeshadow palette ($50) inspired by Jenner’s then-quick-changing hair colours, lip glazes ($30) that hark back to her first lip glosses and the best-selling Matte Lip Kits (liquid lipstick and lip liner, $55) – re-released in packaging and shades that honour the brand’s 2015 debut.

Two of the eye palette’s pigmented shimmer shades are named after years – a silver metallic pearl colour is 2014 and an icy blue shimmer goes by 2015.

The matt lip kit comes in four limited-edition shades. A Decade is a soft beige pink lipstick paired with a contrasting brown beige lip liner. Kylie Jenner Lips is a warm rose lipstick with a contrasting deep warm rose lip liner. True Brown K is deep chocolate brown and Dead of Knight is a true black (for both lipstick and lip liner), in the style of teenage Jenner’s bold, dark lip looks.

Onitsuka Tiger launches Italian leather series

The Mexico 66 IM shoe gets the Italian leather treatment, with a thicker sole.

Japanese shoe brand Onitsuka Tiger has released two heritage sneaker models, Mexico 66 and Fabre ($570 each), reinterpreted using Italian leather and vintage finishes crafted by Italian artisans. The launch is part of its new Italian Made series, which blends Italian leather craftsmanship with Onitsuka’s functional cool design.

Shoes in the series are crafted in Italy to bring out the appeal of the country’s leather, known for its texture and durability.

Artisanal vintage processing also creates unique colours and textures that give a charming worn look to the shoes.

Notably, the Mexico 66 IM comes in an updated silhouette with a thicker cup sole, instead of the familiar thin one, to keep the impression of the shoe modern.

Info: Available at B1-37/38 Takashimaya Shopping Centre, 391 Orchard Road. Open from 10am to 9.30pm daily
