With the ocean breeze in their hair and panoramic sea views as their backdrop, Mr Glen Ong, 32, and Ms Dione Chen, 31, exchanged vows in a scene straight out of a dream. Their big day at Sky Garden Sentosa was witnessed by 140 of their closest family and friends.

But it wasn’t just the scenic rooftop view that made their celebration one to remember – it was also the personalised wedding buffet thoughtfully curated by their caterer, Rasel Catering.

As one of the preferred caterers under Sky Garden Sentosa’s venue package, Rasel Catering caught the couple’s attention early on in the planning process. They were drawn to the company’s diverse Western menu, which perfectly matched their wedding theme.

“Rasel Catering offered interesting menu items like vol-au-vent, shepherd’s pie, panna cotta and even a live lamb carving station,” says Mr Ong, CEO of Whyre Technologies. “That really sealed the deal for us.”

One-stop concierge for wedding planning

The couple credits Rasel Catering for playing a key role in shaping their wedding-day menu. Together with the team, they crafted a bespoke spread that differed from the original package offering, tailored to match their vision for the day.

“We handpicked our dishes based on a larger menu that was made available to us,” shares Ms Chen, a freelance communications manager. “Rasel Catering’s staff were very helpful in providing insights and advice on curating the customised menu.”

“We were also very happy about the inclusion of a live station for the roast lamb, as it added a premium touch to the buffet,” says Mr Ong.

From the get-go, Rasel Catering’s team handled logistics, menu finalisation and set-up discussions in one seamless session during the complimentary food tasting. The process was led by their catering coordinator, a sales manager from Rasel Catering, whose attention to detail gave the couple peace of mind.

“It was a very simple process,” recalls Ms Chen. “Our coordinator asked us all the necessary questions and settled everything then and there.”

What made things even smoother? The company’s close relationship with its venue partner, Sky Garden Sentosa.

With a strong network of venue collaborators – including other iconic spots like Gardens by the Bay and Jewel’s Cloud9 Piazza – Rasel Catering offers couples a curated wedding experience without the stress of managing multiple vendors.

From stylists and planners to gourmet catering, Rasel Catering is a one-stop concierge for weddings. For the couple, this meant they could focus on enjoying their celebration rather than coordinating moving parts.

“Sky Garden Sentosa and Rasel Catering worked together like clockwork,” Ms Chen recalls. “There wasn’t much for us to worry about on our side.”

A new era of intimate celebrations

With its elegant set-up and relaxed buffet format, Mr Ong and Ms Chen’s wedding reflects what many couples today are gravitating towards: micro weddings.

“We wanted a simple wedding as we view our big day more as a party rather than a ceremony,” says Mr Ong. “We felt that by keeping it simple, our guests would enjoy the wedding more.”

“The buffet style and open garden concept provided the ambience for a more fluid wedding where everyone is free to roam around and enjoy themselves,” adds Ms Chen.

For couples planning micro-weddings, Rasel Catering takes care of everything, from buffet set-ups to venue styling and customised menus.

Rasel Catering has also observed this shift toward smaller, more personalised weddings.

With 28 years of experience and over 300,000 events catered to date, the company has built a strong reputation in Singapore’s events scene. In 2023, it also earned the highest-tier award in the Singapore Food Agency’s Farm-to-Table Recognition Programme, a testament to its ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Shares Ms Chris Loh, co-owner and creative director of Rasel Catering: “Couples today are prioritising curated experiences – gourmet menus, bespoke styling – over traditional large-scale banquets. The focus has clearly shifted toward intentionality and intimacy.

“As a caterer, this gives us the opportunity to offer highly personalised, detail-driven service and bring beautifully crafted menus directly to the couple’s preferred venue.”

Of course, some couples still prefer a grand celebration. Rasel Catering is also equipped to scale up for larger affairs, offering sit-down luncheons and wedding dinners. Services are highly customisable to suit a couple’s budget and needs.

Its sit-down menus feature international cuisine and three-to eight-course experiences, complete with elegant table arrangements and thematic decor to match.

For couples who treasure tradition and the warmth of family-style dining, Rasel Catering’s Oriental Communal Wedding package features a sit-down classic Chinese banquet.

For those who prefer the charm of a classic Chinese banquet, the

Oriental Communal Wedding package

brings together loved ones over authentic Chinese cuisine. These include dishes such as Imperial Emperor herbal chicken with wolfberries, steamed grouper with crispy ginger and superior soya sauce, and wok-fried butter cereal prawn.

For church weddings, couples can focus on their ceremony while Rasel Catering manages the reception. Over the years, the company has catered many church weddings, ranging from intimate gatherings of 100 guests to large-scale receptions with up to 500 guests.

To complement these occasions, the caterer also offers

themed decor options

such as Bohemian Blossoms and Enchanted Garden, designed to pair beautifully with a church buffet reception.

Beyond curating bespoke menus, Rasel Catering places a high premium on safety and hygiene – an expectation that’s become even more important post-pandemic.

“Our team is trained to operate with precision and care, following strict hygiene protocols at every stage of preparation and service,” says Ms Loh. “Maintaining best-in-class hygiene standards isn’t just a requirement, it’s a responsibility we take seriously to ensure the well-being and trust of every guest we serve.”

A celebration to remember

On their wedding day, Mr Ong and Ms Chen were able to celebrate with their loved ones while Rasel Catering quietly handled the details behind the scenes.

To ensure guests did not go hungry before the buffet opened, the team set up a separate canape table 30 minutes in advance. Later, noticing that guests were avoiding the outdoor heat, they proactively moved food stations indoors to keep everyone comfortable.

The couple’s curated Western buffet proved to be a hit.

Ms Chen and Mr Ong are grateful for Rasel Catering’s seamless coordination on their big day, so they could focus on celebrating with loved ones.

“They devoured the flavourful garlic prawns and the tender lamb,” says Ms Chen. “We heard that the truffle mushroom soup was very yummy too.”

Looking back, both Mr Ong and Ms Chen are thankful for how Rasel Catering took the stress out of wedding planning, allowing them to simply enjoy the day.

Says Mr Ong: “It was really a worry-free process for us all throughout. Our wedding was smooth sailing and most importantly, we actually had fun!”
