BigO Magazine’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Singapore publication BigO, which ran as a print magazine from 1985 to 2002, was a staunch champion of home-grown music and pop culture and played a pivotal role in the development of the alternative music scene. After its last print issue, it existed solely as a website until August 2023, when it closed.

2025 marks the 40th anniversary since it started and new gig organiser Neonpulse has assembled a two-day line-up of bands associated with the magazine.

Among those performing are veterans of the underground and indie music scene that had their start in the 1980s, such as alternative rock quartet The Oddfellows and Opposition Party, often credited as Singapore’s first punk band.

The eclectic line-up also features bands of various genres, including shoegaze outfit Astreal, punk-indie band Plainsunset and Vedic metal band Rudra, all of which formed in the early 1990s.

Bands from the 2000s include retro quartet The Pinholes and indie rockers The Great Spy Experiment.

Pre-sale tickets are sold out, but a limited number of tickets will be available after doors open at noon on both days.

But movie viewers might also recognise him for his role as a smuggler in Hollywood dinosaur flick Jurassic World: Dominion (2022).

Known for their celebratory sets at Belgian EDM festival Tomorrowland, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are also behind tunes such as Thank You (Not So Bad), a 2023 remake of English singer Dido’s 2000 hit Thank You.
