Usually, the driver will be alerted to a drastic drop in pressure in one tyre by a warning message on the instrument panel.

A tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is a useful feature that will warn of a slow leak. However, you should not be immediately alarmed when you notice a minor difference in the pressure of each wheel.
Small variations – of up to five per cent – are not critical. You may also notice that the reading on the gauge at a petrol station air pump is slightly different from the figure on your car’s on-board display.
