Two basic considerations in designing brakes are vehicle weight and performance.
Because of their hefty batteries, EVs weigh more than equivalent petrol models. A mid-size five-seater petrol sedan may weigh about 1,400kg, but an EV equivalent will weigh at least 2,000kg. This is primarily why an EV’s brakes are comparatively larger.
