When I was growing up, I remember that my father had to have his cars treated with anti-rust. Why are we not encouraged to add rust-proofing to our cars these days?

Corrosion or rust used to be a huge problem with cars built before the 1980s. Therefore, rust-proof coating was part of the standard sales package, along with stereo sets and sports rims.
