SINGAPORE – When the first Chinese passenger car landed here 18 years ago, it quickly gained notoriety as the nastiest vehicle to ever reach Singapore’s shores.

According to a Straits Times review published on July 22, 2006, the tiny Chery QQ’s noise insulation was so bad that it might have been quieter to drive with the windows down.
