Mercedes-Benz GLB breaks cover

The Mercedes-Benz GLB is the second small Mercedes to be refreshed after the CLA four-door coupe. Like the compact family car, the small seven-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV) uses Mercedes’ latest architecture for compact cars and will be available in both electric and combustion-engine forms.

The proportions of the new GLB are similar to the current-generation car with the upright stance that references the G-class off-roader. While the petrol-engine version has a traditional radiator grille, the electric version has an illuminated front panel.

The new GLB should be more spacious than before. The overall length, at 4,732mm, is 48mm more than the current model’s. Wheelbase has also been increased by 60mm to reach 2,889mm. This allows the rear doors to be larger, which should make it easier to climb onto the third-row seat.

In terms of powertrain, the electric GLB will come with either a single motor powering the rear wheels or as a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive vehicle. The car is also available with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine.

The Lexus LFA looks set to return as an electric supercar. The svelte two-seater was unveiled as a show concept on Dec 5. Rather than having a screaming V10 engine like the original LFA from 2010, the new car will be fully electric and developed alongside the Toyota GR GT, which will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine.

Not much else is known about the new Lexus other than its dimensions. At 4,690mm long, it is around the size of the Nissan GT-R. It has an overall height of 1,195mm, which is barely taller than the Lamborghini Revuelto.

The GR GT is slated to be launched globally in 2027, together with a hotter, GT3 racing version.

Compact Kia SUV

Kia has unveiled the second-generation Seltos, a compact SUV that is larger than the Niro but smaller than the Sportage. Two petrol-powered versions – a 2-litre naturally aspirated and a 1.6-litre turbocharged – have been announced, while a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid is expected to join the line-up.

The version that will be sold in Europe is generously equipped, with luxuries like a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, head-up display and sunroof being offered as standard. In terms of styling, the Seltos bears hints of Kia’s recent new electric cars like the EV5 and EV9, being slightly boxy and muscular.

Production is slated to begin in December in India before it is launched in South Korea and other countries.

Goodwood Revival celebrates Vespa’s 80th anniversary

The 2026 edition of the Goodwood Revival will mark the 80th anniversary of the Vespa scooter. The annual event at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, around 100km from London, will feature a parade of more than 300 pre-1967 scooters in every possible colour and design to kick off the weekend.

Other than having the scooters lap the track, 15 historic car and motorcycle races will be held over two days. This will include 500cc Grand Prix motorcycles that raced up to 1960, vintage Formula One cars and production car-based classic cars.

The event will be held from Sept 18 to 20, 2026. For more information, go to
