Avatr launches in Singapore

The Avatr 11 is the latest electric vehicle (EV) to be launched in Singapore. At 4,880mm long, the car is almost as big as the Lexus RX 350h (4,890mm), and it is pitched above popular electric options such as the BYD Sealion 7 to rival offerings from German premium brands.

Two single-motor versions are available. The Standard Range, which can travel 475km on a full charge, is priced at $278,899 with certificate of entitlement (COE). The Long Range, which has a bigger battery that adds 125km of range, costs $303,999 with COE.

The Chinese state-owned company Changan and battery manufacturer CATL are Avatr’s majority shareholders. Technology company Huawei is a strategic partner that supplies components such as the advanced driver-assistance systems.

The brand is distributed in Singapore by Premium Automobiles and will be housed alongside the Deepal showroom in Alexandra Road. Go to avatrsg.com to find out more.

The BYD Atto 2 will officially be launched on Aug 5. This is the second new model from the Chinese brand since the July introduction of the Sealion 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid. In the BYD line-up, the new car sits between the smaller Dolphin hatchback and the Atto 3 sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Measuring 4,310mm long, the Atto 2 is 245mm shorter than the Atto 3, but still larger than the likes of the Toyota Yaris Cross (4,180mm) and slightly shorter than the electric Hyundai Kona (4,350mm).

The version for Singapore is a 100kW model, qualifying the Atto 2 for the Category A COE.

In the run-up to the National Day Parade (NDP) on Aug 9, MG and Tesla are holding events at Millenia Walk during the coming weekend.

From July 25 to 27, MG – the official automotive sponsor of SG60 – will be at the mall with its range of EVs.

Freebies at the road show include NDP-inspired design face and body stickers and gifts for new followers of the brand’s social media channels.

A limited number of NDP Survival Kits will be set aside for MG owners to redeem from the booth at Millenia Walk. The pack contains refreshments and MG-branded merchandise.

Tesla, which has a showroom at the mall, will be holding a Model Y Camping Pop-up from July 26 to Aug 3. Highlights include making Tesla National Day-themed keychains and gifts.

The brand is also holding its SG60 Tesla Drive, in which participants stand to win a weekend drive in the Model 3 or Model Y over the National Day Parade weekend. To sign up, go to

The American EV brand also announced the debut of the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive.

The energy efficiency of the updated electric SUV is said to be 10 per cent better than its predecessor’s and the operating range has been increased by 8 per cent to 600km. The car is priced at $130,626 without COE.

Quad-motor Mercedes EV rolls in

Its name may be a bit of a mouthful, but the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology – with four independent motors turning its wheels – is an unusually nimble beast.

The motor layout enables the off-roader to complete 360-degree turns on the spot, like a military tank.

While it is the first electric “G-wagen” in the model’s history, the car has a traditional ladder frame chassis layout and a selectable low-range reduction ratio to ensure it retains the same go-anywhere capability as the first generation that debuted 46 years ago.

Compared with the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition, which is the only version of the outgoing model in Singapore now, the electric vehicle has more power (432kW versus 430kW) and torque (1,164Nm versus 850Nm). Its 116kWh lithium-ion battery gives the car up to 473km of driving range.

The G 580 will be at Gillman Barracks in Alexandra Road from Aug 1 to 3 for the brand’s G-Haus event. Other less extreme Mercedes-Benz SUVs will also be on display. Sign up at

The Bicose Real 5T Pro electric motorcycle from Chinese brand Voge is available in Singapore. Its 12kW motor gives a top speed of 115kmh. When fully charged, the 5T Pro can travel up to 150km in urban riding conditions.

The electric motorcycle uses the same charging plug as electric cars’. Getting a flat battery up to 80 per cent state of charge is expected to take between two and three hours.

Voge is brought in by Yew Heng Group, the motorcycle distributor for brands such as KTM and Royal Enfield. The 5T Pro is priced at $14,800 without COE.
