SINGAPORE – German carmaker Volkswagen started life more than 80 years ago as the “people’s car”, replicating what Ford Motor did a couple of decades earlier in the United States.
The Wolfsburg-based brand has since evolved into what is known as a “masstige” nameplate, commanding higher prices than equivalent cars from mass market rivals such as Toyota and Hyundai.
