SINGAPORE - This year's Singapore representative to the Miss Universe competition is beautiful, independent and not afraid to speak up for causes she believes in.

Bernadette Belle Wu Ong, who turns 27 on May 29, is in south Florida, the United States, competing in the contest. The finals will be telecast on Tuesday (Singapore time).
