Team bonding takes on a new meaning when colleagues step out of the office to run together.

For participants of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, this is exactly what the event offers – a chance for companies and teams to connect with one another in a non-work setting.

The race’s “positive vibes” have kept Mr Ashraf Ali Mohamed, national sea logistics international supply chain manager of Kuehne+Nagel Singapore and Malaysia, coming back for the past nine years.

And over the years, Mr Ashraf says he has observed a strengthening of the “community spirit” at the race.

“Participation in this event helps to build team spirit and camaraderie among our colleagues,” he says.

The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge is the world’s largest corporate running event where companies can send teams to compete in a 5.6km race. With a focus on friendly competition and team bonding, the race is open to all fitness levels.

Every year, more than 350 companies, many of them repeat registrants, join the race. This year, as the event celebrates its 20th year of running in Singapore, some 12,000 participants are expected to set off from the start line at the F1 pit building.

Given that the Corporate Challenge promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, even to colleagues who do not run, Mr Ashraf encourages them to start small, explaining how even minor lifestyle changes can be transformative.

“Most importantly, I remind everyone that the goal is progress, not perfection,” he adds.

Ms Jasmine Teo, senior relationship manager at Ice, has been participating in the event since 2014.

Having joined the event at her previous companies, she made it her mission to rally her colleagues in her current company to sign up for the event, and successfully brought along 30 to 40 of them for last year’s race.

The fastest female runner in the race since 2022, Ms Teo says the run is a good team bonding opportunity to “bring runners and non-runners from companies together”.

Post-run fun

Ms Valerie Tan, documentation analyst at Cargill, says the race helps her to get to know her colleagues better, especially when they unwind at the post-race party.

“We generally enjoy gathering over food and drinks, and it was wonderful to share our race experiences and connect with one another on a more personal level,” Ms Tan says.

This year will be Ms Tan’s second time joining the corporate race. She returns for the camaraderie: “The opportunity to bond with colleagues outside the usual work environment was invaluable. We all eagerly anticipated the post-run party, which, in many ways, was our true finish line.”

After sweating it out along the 5.6km course, participants get to celebrate completing the run together at a post-race party. They can look forward to DJ sets, live bands and food trucks.

Participating companies can reserve a dedicated hospitality space for their employees to relax and unwind after the race.

Companies

can also customise a dedicated hospitality space for their team

and personalise this post-race experience with food and drinks of their choice during the sign-up process.

Post-race last year, Mr Ashraf and his colleagues celebrated their accomplishment together at the Kuehne+Nagel hospitality tent. “The refreshments were a welcome treat, helping everyone recharge after the race. It was a perfect chance to relax, bond as a team, and connect with participants from other companies,” he says.

Ms Teo adds: “Everyone should join in, soak up the atmosphere and just have fun.”

The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge 2025 takes place on April 10, Thursday, at 5pm, starting from the F1 Pit building.
