SINGAPORE – Like many people born and bred in Ireland, Mr Steve Gilsenan had his first sip of Guinness, the country’s iconic dry stout beer, on his 18th birthday.

“My dad drank Guinness his whole life, so it was an important ritual for him to buy me my first pint of Guinness,” he told The Straits Times in February.
