SINGAPORE – Art lovers will enjoy extended opening hours to appreciate work from greats like Monet a nd Cezanne
As the Into The Modern: Impressionism From The Museum Of Fine Arts, Boston exhibition wraps up, NGS said it would open till later on two days prior to the show’s end on March 1.
In an update on its website, the gallery said that on Feb 27 and 28, visitors can view the exhibits from 10am to 10pm – an extension of three hours over its usual closing time of 7pm.
On March 1, the exhibition will shut its doors at 7pm and timed entry will continue to apply on a first-come, first-served basis.
The exhibition has been on display at the gallery since mid-November 2025 and has drawn immense interest. It has received about 2½ times the number of visitors a special exhibition would normally attract post-pandemic, an NGS spokesperson said in response to queries from The Straits Times.
Boasting artworks from celebrated artists Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Paul Cezanne and Edgar Degas, the gallery has been treating visitors to once-in-a-lifetime works that depict the transformation of modern daily life in the 19th century.
With its opening weekend coinciding with the 10th anniversary celebrations of NGS, which offered free entry to all, the exhibition reached maximum capacity, with long queues of visitors waiting to enter, said the NGS spokesperson.
When capacity limits were reached, visitors were guided to alternative time slots and encouraged to explore other galleries while waiting, she added.
NGS declined to reveal the exact number of visitors to the exhibition.
Visitors can continue to experience South-east Asia’s largest French Impressionist exhibition till March 1, with tickets priced at $15 for Singaporeans and permanent residents.
