SINGAPORE – While two of the biggest celebrations in one’s life – a wedding and a baby’s birth – are undeniably important, the peripheral activities surrounding these occasions are becoming just as significant.
Milestones in the lead-up to a child’s birth now include a pregnancy announcement, gender reveal and baby shower. After the birth, there are full-month (man yue) or 100-day celebrations, where red eggs and tortoise-shell-shaped ang ku kueh (for girls) or pointed ang yi (for boys) are given to family and friends.
