New grocer-dining concept Curly’s in Dempsey with exclusive, organic produce

SINGAPORE – When buying groceries and food in Singapore can be a convenient click away, what will drive one to head to a new grocer-restaurant concept in Dempsey? 

Perhaps it is dining at the soothing terracotta-hued 8,000 sq ft space, which seats 85 diners, including a 40-seat pet-friendly outdoor area facing an edible garden shared with neighbouring French bistro Atout. 

Breakfast (till noon daily) offers Asian-inspired dishes such as Jeju abalone porridge ($26), Japanese-style breakfast ($33) with grilled wild-caught mackerel, clam soup and short-grain rice, and masala thosai ($22). French toast ($26), avocado toast ($22) and a classic English breakfast ($33) are also available. 

For lunch (noon to 4pm daily), highlights include crab croquettes ($24), porchetta ($33) and curry chicken noodles ($28) made with Korean kalguksu (knife-cut) noodles. 

Dinner operations – with a separate menu – will launch from Nov 14.

Perhaps it is shopping at the Market section, which showcases a range of exclusive and organic products, some from regional small and independent producers.

These include sugar cane-fed Kajiya Beef ($33.90 for 100g) from Japan’s Tanegashima island, Kampot spices (from $6.80) grown on family-owned farms from La Plantation in Cambodia, and milk ($3.95 for 140ml) and yogurt (from $9.90 for 180ml) from South Korean dairy company Mr Milk, which supports local farmers in Jeju.

Fresh vegetables such as cai xin, kai lan, okra and mizuna ($4 to $8 for 200g) come from Folo Farm in Johor Bahru, while tomatoes ($16 for 1kg) are grown at the Borneo Organik Farm in Brunei, a project founded by a Bruneian agricultural scientist. Future harvests will include long beans, eggplants, turmeric and avocados. 

Beyond Asia, explore first-to-market global producers including Italy’s Amedei for bean-to-bar chocolate (from $18.90 for 50g) and Morocco’s Taje for gourmet amlou spreads (from $48 for 190g) made with argan oil, almonds and honey. 

South Korean dairy company Mr Milk supports local farmers in Jeju.

From 2026, there will be hands-on cooking workshops, weekend markets and chef showcases. An e-commerce platform is also in the works.

Curly’s is the latest venture by home-grown food and beverage company Ebb & Flow Group, which includes

one-Michelin-starred Asian contemporary restaurant Willow in Hongkong Street

and Spanish tapas bar Carlitos in Joo Chiat. 

The group’s more recent openings include wine bar-lounge Temper at the Mondrian Singapore Duxton and a second branch of Italian restaurant Casa Vostra at Jem mall in Jurong East.
