SINGAPORE – An edible present is a great present in my book. The Caramelier, an online purveyor of soft caramels, makes really good ones.
They come in seven flavours: Roasted Pecan, Pink Salt, Raspberry Rose, Gula Melaka Coconut, Earl Grey, Coffee and Vanilla Spice.
As good as they all are, the ones that stand out are Raspberry Rose, Coffee, Roasted Pecan and Pink Salt, in that order. I like my caramel on the edge of bitter, and the Roasted Pecan and Coffee come the closest to that. The richness of caramel gets an aromatic lift and a bit of zing from the rose and raspberry.
These sweets are priced at $12 for a box of six (assorted or all of one flavour), $20 for a box of eight assorted caramels and $36 for a box of 18 assorted caramels. For first-timers, the sensible thing to do would be to go for the assortment, then figure out which flavours you like best.
