SINGAPORE – Head to Cherry Garden at Mandarin Oriental if you are looking for a luxurious start to Chinese New Year.

The restaurant offers five set menus ($128 to $328 a person), alongside two special Hennessy menus (from $4,888 for a table of 10 people, book five days in advance) – which include a bottle of the prized cognac.

Highlights include the superior saffron broth with conpoy, crab meat and enoki; stir-fried Hokkaido scallop with prawn and housemade lemongrass black bean sauce; and steamed marble goby fillet in a garlicky sauce.

A star dish on one of the Hennessy menus is the Oscietra caviar-topped “Dong Po” pork with South African four-head abalone and wok-fried five-grain rice with cured sausage – definitely one of the most indulgent dishes I’ve had this season.

Cherry Garden’s yusheng (from $78) is available for takeaway, along with roast goose ($368), suckling pig ($528) and five-grain rice cooked in a claypot with braised South African eight-head abalone and cured sausage ($168).
