SINGAPORE – It is coffee and chill cafe vibes on another level at home-grown cafe chain Guerilla Coffee’s recently launched 80-seat flagship at the peaceful Kallang Riverside.

Instead of its quick service outlets pumping out coffee to caffeine-starved workers at Suntec City and IOI Central Boulevard Towers, this cosy spot aims for an unhurried experience with its “slow coffee” bar, all-day menu and pet-friendly al fresco seating.

Currently, the coffee bar offers a trio of prized “auction lot” coffee beans from Panamanian farms. They are the Auromar Firestone BOP #1 2022, priced at an eye-popping $88 for a portion, Elida Estate BOP #6 2022 ($68) and Lost Origin ($19).

BOP refers to the annual Best Of Panama competition for speciality coffee growers, organised by the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama. From this event, top-scoring coffees are auctioned off each year and are available in limited quantities.

You can also savour the Auromar Firestone and Elida Estate coffees in an educational one-hour auction coffee discovery session ($148).

Each brew is meticulously prepared by head barista Kua Bing Zhong to draw out the natural fruity sweetness and nuances of the coffee at different temperatures.

Of course, there is no need to shell out a fortune for coffee. Prices start at $4 for an espresso, and there are localised versions – the Singapore Latte ($6.70), a spin on Nanyang coffee with a blend of condensed milk, salt and pepper; or Straits Latte ($7.20), with gula melaka and desiccated coconut.

This outlet also offers an all-day dining menu with a selection of coffee-infused dishes.

These include the seasonal butterboard (from $18) with house-churned butter, fruit, sourdough and housemade coffee salt; buttermilk chicken waffles and espresso maple syrup ($20); and Guerilla G2 Tiramisu Deck ($16), where the savoiardi biscuits are soaked in Guerilla Coffee’s Guerilla No. 2 espresso and Kahlua coffee liqueur.

Other highlights include Asian-inspired dishes of tamarind sea bass ($28) and Thai-style grilled pork jowl ($28) with watercress salad and nam jim jaew dip.
