SINGAPORE – So you have sorted out your savoury takeaways and need to settle desserts. Besides the usual log cakes, other sweet treats for 2024 include panettone, pastries and gourmet gummies. Pistachio and chestnut are popular flavours, while the perennial favourite, chocolate, still reigns supreme. 

Here are 11 treats for your festive sugar high.

This year’s log cake at One Farrer Hotel is a tropical fruit-inspired number: coconut dacquoise with layers of caramelised banana compote, mango and passionfruit jelly. It is adorned with white chocolate baubles for a sparkly finish. 

It adds to the hotel’s signature offerings – 64 per cent Manjari Chocolate Raspberry Yule Logcake ($78) and other new treats such as a Rainbow Choux Tower ($88) and Ferris Wonderland ($108).

The latter is a caramelised white chocolate Ferris wheel where each chocolate “cabin” is filled with chocolate-coated almonds and crunchy rice crispy clusters. The wheel comes with eight Christmas-themed macarons.

Festive Pastry Bundle ($35.90)

If you are a bigger fan of pastry than cake, pick up Keong Saik Bakery’s bundle of five bakes. 

It features a festive version of the bakery’s famed sorhei bun with a French chestnut paste; a new Millionaire Pastry with a Belgian chocolate custard centre and salted caramel; and a Christmas fruitcake. 

The other two savoury items in the bundle are a corned beef croissant “eclair” and the bakery’s popular truffle potato cube.

Gourmet Gummies ($12 to $16.50)

For stocking stuffers, consider some grown-up gourmet gummies from Los Angeles-based luxury candy boutique Sugarfina. 

Known for its beautifully packaged gourmet candy, the brand has made its debut in Singapore, just in time for Christmas. It is running two pop-ups in Orchard Road: at Wisma Atria and Takashimaya Department Store’s Basement 2 Food Hall. 

Bestsellers include its Dom Perignon-infused Champagne Bears; But First, Rose Roses, infused with rose wine from Provence; and delightfully tart Sugar Lips and Heavenly Sours. There are also dark chocolate sea salt caramels, chocolate-covered dark roast espresso beans and peanut butter cookie dough.

Pistachio Panettone ($76)

When every other bakery is doing its version of panettone, which do you pick? Leave it to Ami Patisserie’s chef Makoto Arami to offer the Italian classic with the It ingredient of the season: pistachio.

His version incorporates Sicilian pistachio powder and paste into the dough, as well as a pistachio ganache in the centre. 

The original panettone ($72) includes dried raisins, orange and lemon peel steeped in Grand Marnier and Cointreau.

Made by local dessert queen Janice Wong, this snowflake-shaped cake is layered with chocolate mousse, caramel bavarois, coffee mascarpone, chocolate madeleine and chocolate crumble.
