Supermarket chains have been trotting out housebrand snacks at a fast clip, knowing how often people here get the attack of the munchies.
Some of these offerings are worth the calories. Case in point: FairPrice’s Roasted Corn Cashews ($4.90 for a 100g bag). It was launched in October, together with Fried Chicken Cashews ($4.90 for a 100g bag).
Now, you would think the fried chicken version, crusted invitingly like the real thing, would win hands down. But it tastes overwhelmingly of garlic to me.
The intense corn flavour in the Roasted Corn Cashews, on the other hand, is what makes this snack worth eating. It is not overwhelmingly salty either, so even after eating a fistful, I do not feel a raging thirst.
