Ex-convict and secret society member, tattoo artist turns his life around with his photo-realism art

/Profile story on Alfrey Koh, 30, an ex-convict who, after being in out and of prison for the bulk of his teenhood, has reformed and is pursuing a career as a tattoo artist. With some achievements in global and local tattooing competitions under his belt, the artist known for his photorealism tattoos recently moved to a full-fledged studio in North Bridge Rd. On invitation from the Singapore Prison Service, he also frequently goes back to the Reformative Training Centre to give inspiration talks to young offenders.

After being in and out of prison for the bulk of his teenhood, Mr Alfrey Koh has reformed and is pursuing a career as a tattoo artist.

More than a decade ago, it was fiercely gatekept. Global tattoo machine suppliers sold only to registered studios, and the handful of studios in Singapore made up a closed community.
