“I’d marry you with paper rings,” American pop star Taylor Swift once sang about her former boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn.
But come 2026, fans can expect that she will be marrying her fiance, American footballer Travis Kelce
It will no doubt be the wedding bash of the year, given that Swift is one of the world’s most successful pop stars. She ended 2025 as Spotify’s No. 2 most streamed artiste of the year in the world (and No. 1 in Singapore).
And news of her love life has always commanded the attention of the wider pop culture, even before her ascension to the highest echelons of her industry.
Her break-up from Alwyn in 2023 was the subject of international headlines, and American singer Joe Jonas is among her exes who continue to be asked about her in media interviews.
Kelce proposed to the 36-year-old in August with a dazzling – and sizeable – diamond ring.
The proposal took place right after the duo recorded an episode of New Heights, the podcast that Kelce, also 36, co-hosts with his brother Jason.
“He really crushed it in surprising me. While we were talking on his podcast, he had a complete garden built out the back of his house to propose in,” Swift said during an appearance on British talk show The Graham Norton Show in October.
During the same interview, she went on to say that wedding planning was next on her list, once she was done with promotional rounds for her latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl.
“I am just doing the album thing now, which is a big thing, and then I think the wedding is what happens after that in the scheme of the planning, but I’m so excited about it,” she said, adding that Norton would be among those invited.
In response to Norton’s reply that the guest list must be “very big” for him to be invited, Swift added: “It’s huge… I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble.”
Other likely guests include American actress-singer Selena Gomez, who herself just got married in September to American record producer Benny Blanco. Swift was not only among Gomez’s guests, but she also gave a speech during the wedding reception.
Swift demurred on providing a wedding date, although American tabloid Page Six reported that the lucky day will be June 13, 2026. The number 13 is famous in Swift lore as being her lucky number – the singer herself being born on Dec 13.
If not June, perhaps the wedding will take place in July – that was the month Swift performed at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, the home of American football team Kansas Chiefs, in 2023.
Kelce has played for the Chiefs since the beginning of his career with the US National Football League. Due to his position as a player, he was able to watch one of Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tours concerts in the city, but was not able to meet her in person.
He later complained about this fact to his brother on his podcast, a gesture which eventually gained Swift’s attention and led to their eventual courtship.
The wedding will no doubt be immaculately curated by the pop star, who is known for having domestic, homebody hobbies such as sewing and baking.
But it is difficult to say if she will choose to walk down the aisle to one of her own songs – a move that could be “charming, if a little gauche”, to quote one of her lyrics.
The other big question: What will Swift wear? In the past, she has favoured designers and brands such as Stella McCartney – the English fashion designer is a close friend of hers – and also Oscar de la Renta, whose glamorous gowns she has often donned on the red carpet.
A rumour in November suggested that Swift had approached British designer Sarah Burton – formerly of British fashion house Alexander McQueen and currently of French label Givenchy – to design her wedding dress. Burton famously designed the bridal gown of Kate Middleton, when she married Britain’s Prince William in 2011.
Meanwhile, Swift’s many industrious and creative fans have attempted to come up with their own designs.
The cutest attempt might just have come from a group of eight- to nine-year-olds in Tennessee, the US. Three different classes at St Mary’s Episcopal school in Memphis came together to not just design, but also craft their vision for Swift’s wedding gown, replete with tulle skirt, veil and cat carrier for her three beloved cats.
Whatever Swift wears, and however the wedding turns out, the event will no doubt have a cataclysmic impact on wedding trends – for the rest of 2026 and beyond. Not unlike Swift’s influence on pop culture for the better part of the last two decades.
