SINGAPORE – What is the connection between chilli crab and 7-Eleven’s Slurpee? Both are things that the members of K-pop boy band Treasure want to indulge in when they are in Singapore.
The 10-man act – made up of Choi Hyunsuk, Yoon Jae-hyuk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Asahi, Haruto, Doyoung, Park Jeongwoo and So Junghwan, who are aged between 18 and 23 – are in the midst of their maiden Asia tour.
After stops in cities like Taipei, Jakarta and Bangkok, the group will land at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday for their first concert here.
Over a video conference call in late March, Treasure answer five questions about being on the road.
This is your first concert in Singapore. What are you most looking forward to doing here?
Choi: Like any city we have been to, we have high expectations. We have never done anything as a group in Singapore before, so this is our first performance.
Personally, I have had great experiences in Singapore in the past – going to Universal Studios Singapore, of course, and seeing the landmark Marina Bay Sands shaped like a ship and the Merlion.
I also love the (convenience store) 7-Eleven slushie Slurpee. I drank it so much when I was in Singapore. And last but not least, we are all looking forward to eating chilli crab.
Concert tours must be very physically challenging. How do you prepare for it?
Jihoon: Concerts are like marathons – they both have a long runtime. It is cardio, so when we hit the gym, we do a lot of cardio exercises and endurance work. We don’t have any specific diet though, but because the concerts are such intense exercises, we find out afterwards that we have lost a lot of weight.
What type of traveller are you? Is there anyone who is an over- or under-packer?
Yoon: Because we tour so much, we are becoming professional travellers and packers. We don’t miss out on anything we need; we know what to bring.
Junkyu: I am the one with the lighter suitcase because I am the kind who takes only exactly the amount of clothes needed.
Jihoon: And comparatively, I am the one with the heaviest luggage because I like to be prepared, just in case. I will always take extra clothes – I have about 20 per cent more stuff than the other members. But Junkyu, who takes the least amount of things, and I always share a room, so it is perfect. We are like peanut butter and jelly. I love you, Junkyu.

Is there anyone in the group who is the “mum“ taking care of the other members? And is there anyone who loves to be babied?
Choi: Honestly, I think all of us are like little kids and our staff members are like our mums. We still like to be taken care of. We are still learning and growing.
Treasure have been on tour since November. What have been the most memorable moments so far?
Park: Every second with fans is always precious and valuable. But the most memorable moments are those onstage, where we get to play and run, and have fun. Of course, when we first hear the screams of the fans, that is the best too.
