Taiwanese actor Kai Ko is devastated by the death of his dog Max on Feb 12. The 33-year-old shared the news on Instagram Stories that same day.

“See you in the next life, boss,” Ko wrote in Chinese, posting several photos of Max, including its paw prints.

“I am perhaps like the character Frieren, who realises she did not spend time with the people closest to her only after they were gone,” he said. He was referring to the titular character of his favourite Japanese manga series, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (2020 to present).

“Maybe it’s a lesson from heaven on learning how to cherish (what you have). Thank you for these 3,511 days, thank you for making me happy.”

The actor wrote that Max had been with him since July 4, 2015.

Ko, who acted in movies such as You Are The Apple Of My Eye (2011) and Till We Meet Again (2021), added that he would stop work for a while.

He finished filming a new movie, We Wish, in Macau in January.

Ko’s father, businessman Ko Yao-tsung, took to social media on Feb 12 to reveal more details about Max, saying it had died at around 2am.

“It kept rubbing its head against me when I returned home from work at 6pm yesterday,” he wrote. “I kept patting its head and it walked away after more patting. Everything was the same as usual.”

He added: “It passed away peacefully on its blanket.”
