Taylor Swift nabs 10 wins at Billboard Music Awards 2024, total tally is record-setting 49

American superstar Taylor Swift has broken yet another record.
Fresh from wrapping up her almost two-year-long The Eras Tour
Swift took home trophies such as Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album for her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department (2024), Top Hot 100 Artist and Top Streaming Songs Artist.
This brings her total tally to 49 trophies. Previously, she and Canadian rapper Drake were tied at 39 wins each, but with Drake taking home only three awards in 2024, Swift pulled ahead.
She also overtook Drake in the Top Artist category, having won the award four times now. Previously, they both had three Top Artist wins.
This is the second year in a row that Swift has won 10 awards at the BBMAs, which takes into account album sales, streaming numbers, radio airplay and more. The singer appeared in a pre-recorded video message that was screened during the live telecast.
In it, she thanked fans for engaging with her music and helping her win. She said: “It means the world to me that you guys have embraced the things I’ve made, you know? And the fact that you’ve cared so much about my music – this is, like, the nicest early birthday present you could have given me.”
Swift spent Dec 12, the eve of her birthday, spreading joy to some of her fans.
The singer-songwriter made a surprise visit to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, and was spotted signing her Eras Tour commemorative book, taking photos and filming TikToks with the young patients.
In one interaction, a little girl starts talking to the star about American football and says she now likes Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce, who is Swift’s boyfriend.
Swift responded by saying: “Yes, me too. That’s an absolute yes on that one.”
A Kansas City news station reported that Swift spent at least an hour meeting patients at the hospital’s haematology and oncology wards.
Aside from Swift, the other big winners at the BBMAs were American country singer Zach Bryan, who won five awards, as well as fellow American country star Morgan Wallen, who had four wins.
Wallen won Top Country Artist for the third time. This ties him with singer-songwriter Garth Brooks and Swift for the most wins in this category.
Top New Artist was given to American singer Chappell Roan, who had a hit with Good Luck, Babe!. Boy bands Stray Kids and Seventeen won Top Global K-Pop Artist and Top K-Pop Touring Artist respectively.
The Top K-pop Album and Top Global K-Pop Song both went to boy band BTS’ member Jungkook for his album Golden and the song Standing Next To You. The star is fulfilling his mandatory military service in South Korea.
American pop star Sabrina Carpenter may have had a banner year with viral hits such as Espresso and Please Please Please, but she came up empty-handed.
Carpenter, who opened for Swift when she played Singapore’s National Stadium for six nights in March, lost to Swift in seven of the nine categories she was nominated in.
