PARIS – American director Tim Burton and Italian actress and model Monica Bellucci are splitting up, they announced in a joint statement on Sept 19.

“It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways,” the celebrity couple said.

Bellucci, 60, confirmed her romance with Burton, 67, in 2023, and he cast her in the 2024 comedy horror Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to his 1988 blockbuster Beetlejuice.

In the movie, Bellucci played Delores, a Frankenstein-like evil creature determined to take revenge on her titular ex-husband (Michael Keaton).

Bellucci has two daughters aged 21 and 15 from her 14-year marriage to French actor and Irreversible (2002) co-star Vincent Cassel which ended in 2013.

Burton was in a long-term relationship with British actress Helena Bonham Carter from 2001 until 2014. They also share two children, a 21-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter. AFP
