SINGAPORE – Home-grown singer Stefanie Sun showed up to support her husband Nadim van der Ros when he was honoured for his volunteer work with the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) on Sept 3.

Mr van der Ros posted the news on social media on Sept 5.

“I definitely don’t think I deserve it, but receiving the High Commendation Award at the Singapore Red Cross Awards 2025 gives me an opportunity to highlight the truly incredible work being done by the SRC community – staff, volunteers and partners – who give so much of themselves in service of the humanitarian mission,” the Indonesia-born founder of a consulting firm wrote.

“In my small way, I’ve been fortunate to support some of the work across different areas – helping with overseas missions and training through Global Engagement, and contributing as a volunteer trainer with the Singapore Red Cross Academy in both first aid and humanitarian deployment preparation.”

The 48-year-old also shared a photo of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam speaking to some attendees.

“It was a real privilege to briefly speak with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the event and share a little about the breadth of work volunteers are involved in,” Mr van der Ros wrote. “I’m grateful to play a small role in a much larger effort.”

Posting a photo of himself and Sun at the ceremony, he added: “And of course, none of this would be possible without the support of my amazing wife and kids. Behind every volunteer is a family that makes it possible.”

Mr van der Ros married Sun, 47, in 2011 and they have two children, a son who turns 13 in October and a seven-year-old daughter.

Sun kicked off her Aut Nihilo concert tour in Singapore in April and completed the

Taiwan leg of the tour

in August. Mr van der Ros was spotted in attendance when she performed in Singapore and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She will next perform in Chongqing, China, on Sept 19 and 21.

According to Mr van der Ros’ LinkedIn page, he has been a volunteer with the Singapore Red Cross since 2019.

“Trained in overseas disaster deployment, I volunteer on overseas humanitarian projects and disaster response missions,” he wrote. “As a trained BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) + AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Instructor, I also volunteer my time as a trainer when needed.”

He previously shared his volunteering journey with Pioneer, a magazine focused on the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), in December 2023. He joined the SAF Volunteer Corps in 2021 and serves as an Auxiliary Security Trooper.

“Volunteering isn’t just an act; it’s a calling. It’s a life filled with purpose and contribution,” he shared in a first-person account with Pioneer. “In every small gesture, in every meaningful endeavour, we have the chance to make a difference. Let’s not merely make it an act; let’s make it mean something.”
